Last week Mollydoo had their first cycling club familiarisation (FAM) trip to the Costa Daurada with 8 cycling clubs from across the UK. The trip was supported by Spanish Cambrils tourist board and our partners, Cambrils Park Resort.
A big thanks to the following cycling clubs for attending the Mollydoo Costa Daurada FAM trip: Ross On Wye CC, Royal Dean Forest CC, Hereford Wheelers, Icknield CC, Chippenham Wheelers, Ronde Cycling Club, Edinburgh, InGear-Quickvit-Trainsharp, Clapham Chasers.
The temperature usually hovers around 15 degrees in January, however the weather was extreme with most of the Costa Blanca and Mallorca covered in snow! Costa Daurada seemed to escape the snow and we ended up escaping with a few showers. The unusual cold front however did not deter the enthusiastic riders, after all we are British and this weather is normal, right?
We were welcomed at the airport by our partners Cycling Costa Daurada who greeted us with a smile and a goodie bag with choco biscuits and water, a nice welcome and start to our cycling trip. Within 15 minutes we were in Cambrils Park Resort and a further 10, checked in and escorted to our luxury spacious apartments.
Cambrils Park provided us with two 3 bedroom apartments, each room had its own on-suite and we had an open plan kitchen and dining area, a large plasma TV and leather sofas. This gave plenty of room for up to six riders. The on-site facilities were amazing, we had access to the wellness spa, gym and a fitness room, I must say taking an ice cold bath was a first post ride but it seemed to do the trick and sooth my sore muscles.
Some of the guys booked in for a post ride massage, this was not a problem and at short notice Cambrils Park provided the excellent service for a small fee of 30 euro.
One thing I must highlight, the food here was quality, a buffet breakfast and dinner, the choice was fantastic and healthy, a few cakes where on offer also, hard to resist!
Now, the club riders had never cycled in the Costa Daurada before so did not know what to expect, most had experienced Mallorca year after year. The event delivered two organised and fully supported rides, each around 100 km. The cycling guides from Cycling Costa Daurada where amazing and nothing was too much trouble for them, There knowledge and experience was excellent and they supported every rider, no matter what pace, safety was always there top priority and we were well looked after.
We cycled through some beautiful picturesque traditional Spanish villages, climbed some amazing ascents and experienced some thrilling descents that got our hearts racing. We had a support vehicle fully loaded with snacks, nutrition, spares and drinks and a warm welcome on our stops!
This was a very successful trip and taking into account the feedback we had from the cycling clubs, we will definitely be organising regular cycling camps and holidays at Cambrils, Costa Daurada.
The clubs kindly provided some great feedback, see for yourself here and if you have any questions or would like any further information about our Costa Daurada camps and cycling holidays call us on 01989 477011 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
