FAQ

We understand that many of our clients will have been on holiday during their lifetime, or maybe it's your first time; if so congratulations! There are many things to consider even when going on a standard package family holiday. So, when you introduce cycling to the equation, then this raises even more questions and considerations for our clients. We want you to enjoy a stress free, enjoyable experience. Whether you're thinking about booking with us, or you’ve already booked with us and are just counting down the days to your exciting cycling adventure.

Hopefully we will have the answer to your question. If you can't find what you're looking for, please feel free to email us at enquiries@mollydoo.com or contact us directly on 0333 222 5913 and speak to a specialist or your existing personal advisor, who will endeavor to help with your query.

This is entirely up to you and how strongly you feel about riding your own bike. A few years ago hire bikes were not that good quality, cheap and people took their own bikes abroad to ensure they had a good comfortable familiar ride. Hire bikes are now excellent quality at affordable prices and sometimes even better than what you may ride back home!

When you weigh up the risk and cost of taking your own bike vs. hiring, in most cases it works out cheaper to hire and you don’t risk damaging your own bike in transit. Plus there is the cost and pain of transporting the bike to and from the airport.

We offer different levels of tours, from beginners to experienced and elite riders. Most tours will offer different routes depending on your level of experience. The level will be clearly marked against each tour on our website or proposal we send to you.

Remember, we offer some packaged tours but also offer bespoke tours designed specifically with you in mind. So, whatever your level of fitness and experience, we can tailor a tour, if needed, to meet your needs. Just tell us what you want and leave the rest to us!

This will depend on the destination and the time of the year. Once you book a tour, we will send you a checklist specific for your destination.

Remember, although the destination may be warm or hot at sea level, when you reach high altitude the temp can change dramatically, so layers are recommended. Don’t worry about taking too much as support vehicles are always included on our guided rides and you can leave extra clothing in the support vehicle and ride light.

Some nutritional supplements are included on some tours, like energy bars, snacks and drinks. We are more than happy for you to consume these on tour but remember the golden rule! Try and avoid consuming any food or drink that you have not tried before as this may not agree with you.

Like any event or sportive, the terrain and intensity is probably going to be very different to your normal weekly cycling regime. After all, that’s why you are going on a cycling tour or holiday? It is really a personal thing with regards to training as we don’t know your exact level of fitness or experience and knowledge.

We are happy to help with any questions you have and also there are plenty of expert resources available for training tips, but generally, look at the length of the ride, the elevation, time in the saddle for our tours and this will give you an indication of what gaps you need to fill in your training schedule.

If you are taking your own bike then you need access to spares, just in case! Remember with bike hire, you just turn up and hire, the spares and maintenance are taken care of.

If you provide the make and model of your machine, we can do some checks at destination before you travel to see what is available for you and even check the stock for you

One of the best features of our tours is that you don’t have to worry about the logistics and how to get to the start of the rides. Most of our tours will include a hotel pick up service to the start off your ride as part of the inclusive package, and we will clearly indicate if this is the case on your booking confirmation and proposals.

Some hotels allow this but a small majority disallow this for health and safety reasons. However, the hotels that we recommend will almost certainly allow this and we will always check at the time of booking if this is your requirement, and ensure that this is detailed on the accommodation request at the hotel.

With some of our tours we also include safe lock up when the hotel has a safe bike friendly, and will even consider storing your bike at this location even if you are staying at a different hotel. Ask for details when booking.

If you provide us with any dietary needs we will check with the supplier if they can meet your requirements. This information will of course be kept confidential and will only be shared with the supplier in question.

No, not if you don’t want to carry them in your luggage.  We can arrange for a couple of bottles to be provided for you. This may be subject to additional cost of the bottles.

Helmets can be hired, just let us know your size and we will take care of this for you. Shoes are not available to hire and this is probably one of the most important pieces of equipment that if you change close to, or on tour will impact your comfort.

Let us know your cleat type, Look, SPD etc. If your particular cleats are not supported, just bring your pedals along and they will be fitted to your bike in readiness for your first ride.

All our packages include private airport transfers which will accommodate you, a group and your bikes. The private taxi will meet and greet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel.  This will include a return transfer.

We will either include this in the package and this will be clearly indicated, or we can arrange this for you at an additional cost if not included.

Support vehicles are included on all our guided "road" cycling tours were indicated. The support vehicle will always be close by on route and will carry your luggage, spares, supplements and a first aid kit, in case of emergencies. On most MTB tours, there will be no support vehicle with you during the ride as it's difficult for access, but you will have an experienced guide with you at all times for our guided tours.

You can provide us with your measurements and we will ensure the bike is all set up and ready to ride when you get there. It may need a little tweak but the mechanic will be there on hand to do this for you if needed.

Yes, you can book on behalf of someone else. You will need to have their full name, as detailed on their passport, and their contact details to hand so we can send them their holiday confirmation and contact them should we have any queries concerning their booking. Once the booking is made, they will also have access to all their booking details and a personal travel advisor via their personalised mollydoo dashboard at Mollydoo.com

Please note, if you are booking over the phone, the card holder must be the lead passenger. If this is not the case then you will be required to make a bank transfer. If making a bank transfer, the booking cannot be confirmed until monies are received into our bank account.

Yes of course. Although we specialise in providing inclusive cycling holidays we are able to provide accommodation only to you and we have access to accommodation worldwide at some great prices.

If you need prescribed medication for your health condition, talk to your GP or practice nurse about your travel plans at least two months before your holiday. They can tell you if you need to make any special arrangements.

You should also always carry your medication in a correctly labelled container, as issued by your pharmacist. Try to carry your medication in your hand luggage (airline regulations permitting), with a copy of your prescription. Try and also pack a spare supply of medication in your suitcase or hold luggage where possible, in case you lose your hand luggage.

It's a good idea to travel with a copy of your prescription and a letter from your GP giving:

  1. details of your medication, including its generic name (not just the brand name)
  2. the name of the health condition that you need the medication for
  3. imperative medical information translated into the language of the country or countries that you're visiting.

Yes, please ensure you take your passport on holiday with you as some airlines will prevent you boarding without it.

Some countries will require you to have a valid passport for 6 months after your return date. This does vary from country to country and can be checked on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) web-site and then navigate to the advice for the country you are travelling to.

For non-UK passport holders, you will need to contact the embassy or consulate of the country you are travelling to. These contacts can also be found on the FCO web-site. Your documents will be checked at the UK departure point for your trip, and if not deemed acceptable, you will be denied travel. So please make sure you check your documentation. If you need to organise a new passport, please allow plenty of processing time before your departure, although you can pay an additional fee to expedite UK passport delivery. More information can be obtained from this link Apply for a UK Passport.

We want everyone to enjoy any one of our travel arrangement we offer. If you or any member of your party have any disabilities, or are less mobile passengers, it is extremely important that we make the necessary arrangements to make sure your holiday goes smoothly. In order to do this, please call our office on 0333 222 5912 before completing any reservation to ensure compatibility for the holiday that you choose.  One of our specialist will be on hand to discuss your needs with you.

The information you provide will be treated confidentially and will only be used to check that the transport, accommodation and facilities in the destination are suitable for you.

The FCO (Foreign & Commonwealth Office) is the British government department that issues advice should a country be considered unsafe to travel to. Airlines and Tour Operators here in the UK will generally follow advice given by the FCO regarding travelling to and from a country, and we will warn you of anything that is reported.

The FCO website can be found below, and also has information on a selection of subjects for those looking to travel abroad. www.fco.gov.uk

You can renew or replace your UK adult passport up to 9 months before your current one runs out, but it will take at least 3 weeks to get your passport via the post and can take longer between April and September due to peak seasons. Best advice we can give you is to apply as early as possible.

Further information can be found here:

Mollydoo includes the price of a flight with most of their cycling holiday packages. This is detailed in the "whats included" section for each package. We base our from price on the cheapest flight to that specific destination within a given period of time that the package is available.

If you already have a flight or are outside of the UK, we can simply remove the flight from the package and provide you with a proposal.

We often get asked questions on how flexible we can be. People often think that you can only flexible if you DIY. Remember, although we are a tour opertor, we are also cyclists and therefore understand that flexibility is key so we built this into our packages. We are also ATOL bonded, so you get flexibility plus protection.

Most of our packages are completely flexible, including duration, board basis, no of rides, bike hire, transfer service, choice of hotel and more..

Just tell us what you need and leave the rest to us!

All our packages include a UK flight. However if you live outside the UK we can provide you with a proposal without the price of the flight. We can still include the airport transfers so when your international flight arrives, you are transferred with no hassle.
